Tom Joad Jr, was the first son who was retributive released from prison on probation for homicide when the Joads embarked on in that respect journey. One wickedness as the Joads where traveling, they camped with another family on the road, that night Grandpa died. The coterminous morning the Joads began traveling with the family they had camped with.

When the Joads where about to enter California, the family they had been traveling with could no longer go along with them. The night the Joads where entering California, as they where driving Grandma died, further breaking the family apart. When the Joads entered the land of milk and honey they where faced with many hardships, includ ing rampant discrimination against migrant ! families.
